I'm so happy!!!!

Dear kids,

You made my day / week (= ganhei o dia / a semana) this morning when I visited you all at school: 5A, 5C, 6A and 6B. What an enthusiastic reception in the four classes! Cheers! Applause! Excited expressions: "Teacher! Teacher! You're back! How are you?" I held my arms open to hug you all at the same time. It was moving and very gratifying. Thank you!  :-)

DiogoV. (6A) asked if I could already do a 4 standing up. I showed them all how well I can now bend (= dobro) my right leg and did a great 4!!! Applause followed. Then I told that I had talked with Teacher Andreia. We have a meeting next week to see if they continue the CALL Lessons. I said I could connect from home and use a webcam. What an explosion of excitement.

6B was having Music with Teacher Ana Paula and it was Maria's birthday, so they asked if we could sing "Happy Birthday". Teacher Ana Paula played the tune in the organ and we all sang, and then she said they had to sing for Teacher Teresa who had done such great work with them and other students in that school. We all sang to the tune of "Happy Birthday" for lack of something else i«on the spur of hte moment. Thank you, Ana Paula! And thank you, 6B!

It's amazing what a close rapport (= estreito relacionamento) I was able to build (= consegui construir) with both 5th grades, since we were only together for 5 weeks. They gave me a very heartwarming welcome!

I told all classes that I wasn't going back, because I had retired in February. But I would visit them regularly at school and would never forget the wonderful times together.

I didn't get to see Daniella and Rui, two of my dear student-friends, because they were horseback riding, part of a special needs program they are in. I hope to see them next week.

I also enjoyed seeing several colleagues from my days, since many have retired early, as I did. It's a whole new ladnscape in the Teachers' Room.

What a special morning it was! I won't forget it.   :-)

I'm so sad!!!

      Dear kids,

Long time no hear from you! I'm so sad!! I feel so lonely and abandoned!!!

I left (= eu deixei) a message for Teacher Helena and you. And I left a message at Christmas!

I met (= vi) João on Wednesday at the school gate a little before 4 pm. I loved seeing him and I think he loved seeing me. I gave him a great big hug. (((( ))))

I asked him to come to the blog and send me a message, and to ask (= pedir) others to do the same. I have two very nice things to put in the blog, but... only if you start caring (= a preocupar-se) for me and the blog again.

I'm in physical therapy - 4 weeks already! - and my leg is  doing great!

I'm also waiting for retirement (= reforma). But I will visit you and continue your friend, always!

Lots of kisses and hugs from your brokenhearted but still crazy teacher

Welcome, teacher Helena!

Hi, kids!

I hope you are giving a very warm welcome (= boas vindas muito calorosas) to teacher Helena, who is finally substituting me. Please be very nice to her, behave well and work extra hard - I know you can! -, because you have 4 weeks less (= a menos) of classes this term.

Teacher Helena phoned me last week and this afternoon. She seems to be very nice. I told her about the good things about most of you and the less good things about some of you.

Remember: English is a global language and it is very important to learn it well so that you can communicate with people anywhere in the world.  That's what you did a lot last year with all your teacher-friends.

I'm feeling very well and hope that my kneecap is also well. I will know next week when I go to the doctor again. I think that the next phase is a lot of physical therapy.

I miss you all very much! Be good!   :-)

Hugs and kisses from your "crazy" English teacher

My first broken bone

CUIDADO

PERIGO DE TROPEÇAR

3Nov: SURPRISE at the bottom

10Nov: New drawings by Letícia (see Art Gallery 08-09): they're very cute!

Hi, kids!

Something "crazy and radical" happened (= aconteceu) to me on Monday morning (27Oct) at school. I tripped (= tropecei) on a former student (= antigo aluno) and fell down (= caí) instantly. I fractured my right knee cap (= rótula; patella in Latin). This is the first bone that I break (= osso que parto) in my life! There's always a first time for everything!!!

I went (= fui) to Cascais Hospital in an ambulance - my husband was with me - and the X-ray showed (= mostrou) a crack in my knee cap. My right leg is all in plaster (= em gesso) and I only had a little pain (= dor) the first two days.

I have to be immobilized for 6 weeks to see if I don't need surgery (an operation). I have to be very patient and behave (= comportar-me) very well.

Please be "very nice" to your substitute teachers and work hard. I'm counting on you!

Let me know if you need any help.

Hugs and beijinhos from your    English teacher

SURPRISE from a "Mystery teacher"

Look at the Halloween e-card, Feline fright, from a teacher-friend of ours and read the message at the end. It asks you (= pede-te) to write a story using these 4 words: pumpkin, cat, mouse and bat (= morcego). Let's see who writes the best story! Common, kids! Find your inspiration! And keep those stories comming in!!!

Happy birthday, Rui!

It's Rui's (6A) birthday today. Clara, FranciscoC, Daniella and Rui looked for me (= procuraram-me) in the Teacher's Room at 10:00. We sang (= cantámos) Happy Birthday (click to listen) and I took some photos. I will give (= vou dar) Rui a photo.

Hope you have a wonderful day, Rui!

Hugs and kisses from your teacher and friend
